PRSA Greater Fort Lauderdale Women’s History Month Donation Drive Supporting Women in Distress

In honor of Women’s History Month, PRSA Greater Fort Lauderdale is launching a community donation drive to support a local nonprofit making a profound impact on women and families across Broward County: Women in Distress of Broward County (WID).

WID is the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full-service domestic violence center serving Broward County. Through intervention, education and advocacy, the organization provides lifesaving services to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence.

As communicators and community leaders, PRSA Greater Fort Lauderdale is proud to support WID’s mission—and we invite our members and the broader community to join us.

By donating some of WID’s most-needed items, you can help ensure their team can focus on what matters most: supporting survivors and helping them rebuild their lives.

Most-Needed Items

Below is a wishlist of items currently needed to support the women and families served by WID:

• Baby Supplies: Diapers and baby clothes size 2T and up, sealed formula, baby food, wipes, and new playpens
• Hygiene Products: Women’s and men’s hygiene items, deodorant, first aid items
• Non-Perishable Food: Canned goods, rice, pasta, peanut butter, snacks, cereal
• Household Goods: Twin sheet sets, new pillows, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, sponges, mops
• Children’s Items: Books, arts and crafts supplies, toys, backpacks, school supplies
• Electronics: Used cell phones (helpful for emergency access)
• Clothing: New or gently used professional attire, shoes, accessories, handbags (especially plus-size women’s clothing and boys’ sizes 8–17)

There are two easy ways to participate:

Make a Donation Online

You can make a donation directly to WID at www.widbroward.org/donate/. 83 cents of every dollar raised directly support survivor programs and essential services. If you plan to attend our May networking happy hour, simply send a receipt of your donation to communications@prsaflt.org to receive your complimentary drink ticket when you arrive.

Bring items to our May networking happy hour = Free guest pass to future event!

You can also bring your donation directly to our May PRSA Greater Fort Lauderdale Networking Happy Hour taking place at Olive & Sea on Monday May 11, where we’ll celebrate the success of the donation drive. You can register here: https://prsaftl.org/event/supportive-social-mixer/. 

Anyone who 1) uploads a receipt showing proof of a donation item purchased or 2) proof of a monetary contribution made to Women in Distress, or 3) brings in a donation with them to the event, will be eligible for a free guest event pass for a future PRSA FTL event.*

*Offer only applicable for 2026 PRSA Fort Lauderdale Chapter events, NOT including the annual award ceremony. This free pass is to be used only to bring a guest to an event and not for the donor to use for themselves. Event pass value will not exceed $38.
